After the 12 week scan, things seemed to settle down a bit.  I was referred to see an obstetrician on August 19th which was a precaution due to the previous miscarriages I’d had, but after having to wait for 2 hours I didn’t even get to see a proper obstetrician, just a nurse who looked at my notes and said everything was fine.  I had my 16 week check up with my midwife, she had a listen to his heartbeat and said it was really strong.  So August kind of dragged by while waiting for my 20 week scan on September 5th:

Baby Frankie 20 Week Scan

This was the scan where we found out that we were having a boy, and from that point on he had a name – Francesco Enrico, an identity and even his own personality.

It was at this scan that we were asked to return at 23 weeks so they could scan him again as they couldn’t get a good look at his heart and his face, they said his hands were in the way.  I’m wondering now whether they could actually see he had a cleft but weren’t 100% sure, so rather than say anything at this scan they thought they would ask me to go back in a few weeks.  I can’t prove that though and I don’t know for sure, it is just a theory I have.

I left this scan not thinking anything of the fact I’d been asked to return at week 23.
