I finally started to get really into the Christmas spirit when I went to not just one, but two carol services – one at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital led by Rev’d David Southall and the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber Of Commerce business community one at Worcester Cathedral.
My husband came with me to the one at the hospital and we were able to kill two birds with one stone by visiting his Dad at the same time who was still in the hospital. The reception was set up with chairs and the Worcester Male Voice Choir took part in the service, which was absolutely lovely and I really enjoyed singing all the different Christmas carols and praying for Frankie during the service. David did a brilliant job and I actually felt like smiling for a change – David if you are reading this, thank you! My husband took lots of photos and David introduced us to the Chief Executive of the hospital, so we were able to say thank you to her for the care that we’d had during our time in hospital.
At Worcester Cathedral I lit a candle for Frankie while I was there and said some more prayers for him. After the carol service I came across a few people who thought I was still pregnant, and who were stunned when I told them the news. I guess it is going to happen, I’ve done as much as I can to let people know what’s happened, but not everyone will have heard and I knew I had to be prepared for that.
I also started thinking about some people who were less fortunate than me. Just after Frankie was born there was a helicopter crash in Glasgow where some people lost their lives and a terrible storm which left many people without their homes so close to Christmas. At the end of the day, I may not have my Frankie but I do have a lot in my life. I have a wonderful husband, a roof over my head, my health, wonderful parents, wonderful family, wonderful friends and I’ve had amazing support from people, some of whom I don’t know and yet they still took the time to write to me.
And for all this, I am truly blessed.
